Our Private Pilots Licence (PPL) Course.

The PPL course teaches you the basic in flying. With this license you may fly single engine aircraft under certain conditions known as Visual Flight License.

Here at Atlantic we have a fleet of new aricraft, including the popular Cessna 172 and Grob 115.

This course comprises of a minimum of 45 hrs, which includes:

  • 30 hrs with an instructor.
  • 10 hours supervised solo flight time.
  • 5 hrs cross country (150nm flight with two intermediate full stop landings)
  • 5 hrs solo circuits
  • 5 hours of instrument training.
  • 8 week ground school. (3 nights a week for 2 hours each night)
  • 4 written exams (MCQ exams set by the Irish Aviation Authority in Dublin)

   Other Requirements

  • You must be at least 16 yrs old to hold an SPL & 17 yrs old to hold a PPL
  • JAR Class II medical. (Contact Aero-medical Dept, Mater Hospital, Dublin on 018858615).

   Hour Building

Following the PPL, you must acquire a minimum of 100 hours as Pilot in command of an aircraft before you can commence with the Commercial Pilots Licence.

Atlantic has a tailor made hour building programme which allows you to fly primarily for leisure purposes but with regular checks to maintain the high standard of flying.

During this time we recommend you start your ATPL distance learning theoretical course. You may also build endorsements on your licence, such as the Night Rating.
