PPL

The PPL (Private Pilot’s Licence) consists of 45 hours flying in a Cessna 172. To attain this licence you will have to complete 4 written examinations, which are set out by the Irish Aviation Authority and a flight test with an authorised examiner. It takes approx 4-6 months to get this licence and once complete, you will be qualified to fly a single engine piston aircraft in visual flight conditions.

   Night Rating

The night rating takes about 2-3 nights to complete and consists on 5 hours flying; 3 with an instructor and 2 solo. The night rating simply teaches you how to fly and navigate at night and is a requirement to move onto the commercial stage.

   ATPL

The ATPL (Airline Transport Pilots Licence) consists of 14 written exams, which are set out by the Irish Aviation Authority. They take 6 months to complete and the study is done either on a distance-learning basis or in house at Atlantic. We also have a full time ground instructor dedicated to the ATPLs who is available for lectures or to discuss any difficulties you have with any aspect of the syllabus.

   Hour Building

To move on to the commercial aspect of your training you will be required to build up your flying experience. To do this you will need to fly 100hrs, which is done on our Grob 115. This is an opportunity for you to fine tune your flying skills as well as take family and friends flying.

   Multi Engine Class Rating

The Multi Engine Class Rating allows you to fly a multi engine piston aircraft in visual flight conditions. The aircraft we use here at Atlantic is the Piper Seneca PA34. The rating takes about 3 days to complete(6 hours flying) and the flight test for this rating can be combined with the Commercial flight test.

   CPL

The Commercial Pilots Licence allows you to make a career of aviation. It consists of 35 hours flying and a flight test with an authorised examiner. The test is conducted in our complex twin. You will then have a CPL with a multi engine rating.

   Multi IR

The Multi Engine Instrument Rating is a qualification that allows you to fly in the same manner as airline pilots; by instruments only. It comprises of 45 hours flying and a flight test. This is the final stage of your training and once complete, you are qualified to apply for positions within the airlines.
