TRAINING SEMINAR, CLARION HOTEL, LIMERICK CITY JULY’10

This was Atlantics’ first free training seminar in Limerick City and certainly one I was looking forward to.
We arrived at the hotel at about 5pm giving us plenty of time to prepare for the evenings seminar at 7.30pm and the first thing I must say is how helpful the staff at the hotel was.

I have to give a special mention also at this point to Limerick 95FM who had been really good to us with advertising and interviews in the couple of days preceeding the seminar.

The conference room itself was upstairs with a most fantastic view over the River Shannon on that lovely summers evening.

The Atlantic crew was somewhat different this time to the last few seminars as the usual students who had attended with us had now graduated and moved on to work in the airlines so we had some new guys with us, namely Mark O Donnell and Paul McGirr who are currently studying for their ATPL's at the school.

We also had a new member of staff with us in the form of Mandy Doherty who has taken Mary Hennigan's place at the school as Operations Manager, Mary has now gone on to work for Farnair as a first officer on the ATR's based in Germany.......best of luck Mary.

The evening itself was a great success with a big attendance with people coming from as far away as Co. Clare.

Our presentation runs pretty much to a format throughout the evening with speakers such as myself explaining the stages a student goes through for both the theory and flight training to become a pilot, private or commercial. Then instructor Daniel Lynch giving a history and general information about the school and the courses we run here, followed by Mandy from operations explaining the schools day to day running. This would then be followed by a student giving his/her overall view of their training and we normally end up with a guest speaker who is employed as a commercial pilot by an airline.

We also run some very interesting dvd's throughout the show in which people can actually see what it’s like to fly certain aircraft from the smallest to the biggest and get a birds eye view from the cockpits.

A welcome break half way through the night for tea and coffee give people a chance to mingle and ask their particular questions and gather as much info as possible from the different students, instructors and pilots.

The show in the Carlton was really enjoyable with quite a large turnout and I would certainly look forward to a repeat visit in a few months.

As usual the question of funding was high on the agenda and I hope we managed to help people out as much as we could on that topic, however I always invite people to come and see me at the school on a one to one basis and we can discusss their particular set of circumstances privately...........lets face it, everyone is different and needs different advice and guidance both for their training and finance.

I am looking forward already to our next seminar which takes place at the Tower Hotel in Waterford City on Wednesday 25th of August at 7.30pm.
